    A U. of I. student reported that her bicycle wheels and braking system had been stolen between Aug. 9-12 while the bicycle was locked to a rack outside the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building, 306 N. Wright St., Urbana. The parts have a total estimated value of $55.

    At 3:53 p.m. Tuesday at his home in the 500 block of South Westlawn Avenue, Champaign, Jermaine M. Nash Jr., 22, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for theft. Investigators identified Nash as the person who stole a $400 pair of shoes Aug. 8 from the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The shoes belong to a U. of I. student. Nash returned the shoes when questioned by police Tuesday.

    Eric T. Welch, 26, of Farmer City, Illinois, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Tuesday at Willard Airport, 11 Airport Road, Savoy, Illinois, for burglary to a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. A witness called police after seeing Welch checking vehicles in the airport parking lot. Officers found Welch attempting to start a vehicle that he does not own. They also found a pipe containing methamphetamine residue in his pocket.

    A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building, 306 N. Wright St., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $250, was locked to a rack.

    A U. of I. student reported that her bicycle had been stolen overnight Monday or Tuesday from Wardall Hall, 1012 W. Illinois St., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $330, was locked to a rack.

    A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday outside the Digital Computer Laboratory, 1304 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $100, was locked to a rack.

    Gregory Cowart, 58, no address provided, was arrested at 9:41 a.m. Saturday, 3:06 a.m. Sunday and 11:55 p.m. Sunday at Illini Hall, 725 S. Wright St., Champaign, for trespassing on state-supported property. Officers are regularly walking through the building because Cowart continues to return despite being issued no-trespassing notices for U. of I. property.

    A U. of I. security guard reported that someone had painted graffiti on the interior concrete walls of U. of I. parking garage B-4, 1201 W. University Ave., Urbana. The damage is believed to have occurred between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:45 p.m. Sunday. An estimated cost to remove the paint was unavailable.

    Devonte J. Moore, 26, no address provided, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 300 block of East Daniel Street, Champaign, for trespassing. An officer investigating an unrelated matter found Moore, who is not a resident of the apartment complex, in a stairwell.

    Kasey M. Hollis, 29, of Danville, Illinois, was arrested at 3:09 p.m. Friday in the 1800 block of North Cunningham Avenue, Urbana, for aggravated battery. Police initially were called at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 7 by a U. of I. student who reported that she was walking in the 100 block of South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana, when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her pants around the knee area and pulled on them. The man immediately ran away. Investigators used security cameras to identify the suspect’s vehicle and entered that information into an automated license plate reader system. On Friday afternoon, the system alerted police that the vehicle was in Urbana. An officer traveled to that location and found Hollis riding as a passenger. He told police he was involved in the Aug. 7 incident but that it was a prank.

    A U. of I. student reported that his bicycle had been stolen between 3-3:45 p.m. Thursday from Everitt Laboratory, 1406 W. Green St., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $700, was locked to a rack.

    Angelo D. Barkstall, 22, of Urbana, was arrested at 11:25 p.m. Thursday near Second and Green streets, Champaign, for driving with a suspended license and on a Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court. Barkstall’s vehicle initially was stopped because a records check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended.

    Kingsley L. Lemon, 24, of Champaign, was arrested at 1:31 a.m. Thursday near Third and Healey streets, Champaign, on three Champaign County warrants for failure to appear in court. An officer recognized Lemon, who was walking on the sidewalk, and the officer was aware of the warrants.

    Gregory Cowart, 58, no address provided, was arrested at 8:51 a.m. Wednesday at Illini Hall, 725 S. Wright St., Champaign, for trespassing on state-supported property. Police initially were called by a witness who said Cowart was inside the building yelling at a construction crew. Cowart had been arrested Tuesday for trespassing at Illini Hall and was instructed not to return.

    Gregory Cowart, 58, no address provided, was arrested at 12:53 p.m. Tuesday at Illini Hall, 725 S. Wright St., Champaign, for criminal trespassing on state-supported property. Police were called by a U. of I. employee who saw Cowart attempting to enter the building through a door that is currently out-of-service for a remodeling project. Officers found evidence that Cowart had been living there.

    A U. of I. student reported that her bicycle had been stolen between 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Snyder Hall, 206 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $300, was left unlocked at a rack.

    A U. of I. student reported that she was the victim of an aggravated battery at 10:30 p.m. Sunday outside the Materials Research Laboratory, 104 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana. The student was walking on the sidewalk when she was approached from behind by a man who tugged on her pants around the knee. The man immediately ran away. The student was knocked over by the contact but did not require medical intervention.

    A U. of I. student reported that two plastic fender liners had been stolen from their car between July 30 and Sunday while it was parked in the 1900 block of South Orchard Street, Urbana. The liners have a total estimated value of $200.

    Tramon L. Roper, 18, of Champaign, was arrested at 4:40 a.m. Saturday near University Avenue and Neil Street, Champaign, for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Roper was a passenger in a vehicle that initially was stopped for speeding. An officer searched the vehicle after seeing open alcohol and a burnt cannabis cigar in plain view. Police found a loaded handgun under the passenger’s seat, where Roper had been sitting. The driver was issued citations for speeding and operating an uninsured vehicle.

    A U. of I. police officer witnessed a burglary at 2:46 a.m. Friday outside of the U.S. Postal Service office at 302 E. Green St., Champaign. The officer heard a loud metallic sound and then saw a vehicle leave the area at a high speed. The officer found that an access panel had been broken off an outdoor mailbox. U. of I. police secured the crime scene and turned the investigation over to the United States Postal Inspection Service.
