About the Student Money Management Center
The University of Illinois System Student Money Management Center (SMMC) supports financial well-being of students at all universities in the System, including Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield, through:
- Online instruction, both synchronous (e.g., webinars) and asynchronous (campaigns)
- Bi-weekly e-newsletters for students, employees, and parents
- The University of Ilinois Financial Literacy Digital Badges Program (Moodle Courses)
Employees are responsible for program administration; teaching in co-curricular, online environments; research; and assessment.
Financial services, regulations, and technology change rapidly along with the needs of SMMC's target audiences. As a result, members of the SMMC team need to be adaptable in an evolving environment.
SMMC Support Specialist Position Details
- Position Type: Graduate Hourly
- Hours: Up to 20 hours per week
- Pay rate: $24.22/hour
- Start Date: As early as August 2026, depending on candidate availability
- Employment Duration: Summer 2026 through the 2026-2027 academic year
- Reports to: Assistant Director, Student Money Management Center, University Bursar
As an SMMC Support Specialist, you’ll help design and deliver financial education content and services. This role supports a wide range of outreach and operational efforts that promote student success by supporting financial well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Provide online financial wellness education to students through webinars, digital campaigns, and consultations
- Develop and adapt educational materials for diverse groups, including international students, non-traditional students, staff, faculty, and parents
- Conduct data analysis to assess outreach and program effectiveness
- Assist in managing the Financial Literacy Digital Badges Program in Moodle or Canvas
- Support and mentor interns working on marketing, content, or research projects
- Advocate for socioeconomic equity through awareness initiatives for students and stakeholders
- Collaborate with university departments to expand financial education reach
- Create or revise educational articles, videos, graphics, and digital content
- Track outcomes and help refine policies and procedures for SMMC programs
- Promote SMMC activities using print and digital media; co-manage SMMC's social media presence (X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with:
- Online education
- Curriculum development
- Marketing and communications
- Program evaluation or data analysis
- Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, or LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle, Canvas)
- Graphic design or video editing (e.g., Canva, Adobe)
- Interest or background in personal finance or student affairs
- Strong verbal communication and writing skills
- Initiative and creative problem-solving
- Comfort working in virtual environments and diverse teams
- Basic personal finance and money management knowledge preferred, but not required
Eligibility Requirements
Student must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign for the entire 2026/2027 academic year. Candidates with a later graduation date will be given priority.
