Please keep in mind that “Full Color”, “Blue I with White”, and “Orange I with White” are the preferred color variations of the wordmark and should be used whenever possible. However, we’ve included 1-color versions of the unit wordmark for instances when the 2-color variations may not be applied. Approved uses of the 1-color wordmark include:
- 1-color reproduction
- grayscale printing
- when the height of the Block I logo must be smaller than 0.25” in print or 30 pixels on a screen
- when the wordmark is used against a background color not included in the primary palette
Contact Creative Services for approved exceptions to this rule.
Consult the Unit Wordmark Guidelines for more information on how to correctly use the 1-color unit wordmark.
All 1-color unit wordmark files are “Illinois Blue” by default. Other permitted colors for this version of the unit wordmark are “Illinois Orange”, white, and black.
The instructions below take you through the process for changing the color of the PMS version of your 1-color unit wordmark, but the steps are the same for every .eps file containing “1Color” in the file name.
1. OPEN THE FILE
- Open 000_AAAAA_1Color_PMS.eps in Adobe Illustrator
- Open the Swatches panel: Window > Swatches
2. CHANGE COLOR
NOTE
(swatch names and values are different for each color mode file. Blue and orange swatches in your CMYK file should be named "Illinois Blue CMYK" and "Illinois Orange CMYK;" in your RGB file they should be called "Illinois Blue RGB" and "Illinois Orange RGB.” For more information regarding the official Illinois colors consult: http://creativeservices.illinois.edu/brand/logos-and-colors.html)
- You will see 4 color swatches: Black, White, PANTONE 7417 C and PANTONE 2767 C
- If you are altering your unit wordmark for use on merchandise, follow the instructions for“Turning TM On/Off.” For all other uses, continue to the next step.
- Use the “Selection Tool” or the “Magic Wand Tool” to select the entire unit wordmark
- Click on your desired swatch from the Swatches panel (in this case, PANTONE 7417 C)
- Your entire wordmark should now have changed to the color of your selected swatch
NOTE
DO NOT select multiple colors for your unit wordmark.
- For example, you CANNOT select orange for the Illinois Wordmark and blue for your unit’s text.
DO NOT change the color mode on your file. Doing so will produce incorrect color values.
3. SAVE THE FILE
- To save this file, go to File > Save As and name this 000_AAAAA_Orange.eps
- Check “Use Artboards”
- Range: 1
- Save
- Leave the default setting in the EPS Options dialogue box, and click Ok.
NOTE:
The white area around your unit wordmark is called an artboard. The name of the artboard in this file is _1Color_PMS. When you save your file, the artboard name will automatically be added to the end of the file name, making the final file name: 000_AAAAA_Orange_1Color_PMS.eps.
If your printer requests a different file type, see the instructions for “Exporting Different File Formats”.
