An email signature is a tool that we use to share our basic contact information and, more importantly, let our recipients know that we are connected to and communicating on behalf of Illinois. Because of this, it makes sense to standardize email signatures throughout the university and better tie them to the Illinois brand.
In order to make this standardization easy for everyone, Creative Services and Web Services collaborated to add the email signature generator to the Web Tools suite. This tool allows you to simply copy and paste an appropriately formatted email signature into your email client.

If you are a member of the College of Education you have a different set of instructions to create your new email signature. You can read those below.
To generate your own email signature and apply it to your email client follow these basic steps:
- Visit webtools.illinois.edu and log in using your net id.
- Hover over "More" in the top right-hand corner
- Click "Directory"
- You will see a list of all of the directory entries you have editor access to. Select your own by clicking your blue, hyperlinked net id.
- Click "Signature" near the top of the page.
- You will notice that the information from your directory listing has been auto-filled for your convenience. You are free to make any corrections or changes to this information.
- Once you are satisfied with your information, click the "Generate Signature" button.
- After this, click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste your new signature into your email client's email signature settings.

Education
Members of the College of Education can create their signature by accessing the College of Education internal website and clicking the "Create Email Signature" button. Once you have done this, your information should be auto-populated from the education directory. You can then simply follow the same instructions to copy and paste the new signature into your email client.

Email signature standards state that only university department and unit affiliated social media accounts may be included in email signatures. If you are uncertain whether you are able to list a social media account refer to the campus social media listing.
