The Illinois State Water Survey has been a leader in the study of surface water and groundwater resources, weather, and climate for more than 125 years.
Grounded in that legacy, the Water Survey's scientific research and service programs continue to address critical and increasingly complex water and climate issues, such as increasing storm intensity and flooding, severe storms and heatwaves, and protecting the safety and sustainability of drinking water. Just as in 1895, the work and expertise continue to be relevant to collaborators at the University, decisionmakers across the state, and to addressing problems faced around the world.
