    The rising floodwaters of the Mississippi River lap at the heels of our Western Illinois Field Station crew as they conduct auger testing in Calhoun County.

    In spite of the spring chill, members of the Western Illinois Field Station were glad to emerge from a long winter hibernation into the sunshine!

    American Bottom Field Station

    Staff from the American Bottom Field Station (ABFS) have been excavating a site that includes a historic house cellar; artifacts suggest the house was in use during the 1830s and 1840s. Artifacts recovered include animal bones, buttons, coins, bottles, and ceramic tableware.
