As the 2021-2022 school year kicks off, meet sophomore Julie Ross. She's thrilled to be back on this bustling campus for classes this fall and we TOTALLY get that vibe. She's even more excited to lead her own classroom of crazy busy middle school students one day. Learn more about why Julie loves being part of Education at Illinois.
A little bit about Julie:
Q: Where is home for you?
A: I'm from Naperville, Illinois.
Q: What is your year and major?
A: I'm a sophomore in Middle Grades Education with math and literacy concentrations, minoring in adult development.
Q: What do you enjoy about the campus experience, so far?
A: I love the days where campus is bustling. There is always someone somewhere doing something! It is so fun to see the campus alive after the craziness of last school year!
Q: How did you know you wanted to go into the field of education?
A: I've always wanted to be a teacher, and I've been so fortunate to have a number of incredibly influential teachers throughout my life who have reaffirmed my interest in education. Their exemplary models have inspired me to teach the next generation of learners with the same passion they’ve demonstrated in their classrooms.
Q: What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A: I love that the College of Education makes a big school, like Illinois, smaller! The Education community is the best and I am so thankful to learn from my amazing peers and professors here.
Q: Do you have a favorite professor or course? Why?
A: My favorite professor I've had is Dustin Bacon for RHET105. Dustin was the most supportive instructor I could've imagined having in my first semester of college. I was so impressed by their care for their students, passion for the content, and ability to make the content relatable and interesting. As an educator, I hope to create a classroom environment as supportive, enriching, and fun as Dustin's!
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: My favorite food is pasta primavera!
