Amy Heinrichs is a junior from Palatine, IL, and she is a part of our first-ever Early Childhood Professional Education cohort, which is a brand new program that is 100% online.
A little bit about Amy:
Q: Where is home for you?
A: Palatine, IL
Q: What is your year and major?
A: I'm a junior in Early Childhood Professional Education, Curriculum & Instruction.
Q: How did you know you wanted to go into the field of education?
A: I've worked with children in many aspects over the years. Working with them made me realize that helping them learn and grow was my passion and something that I wanted to do. For me, there's nothing better than teaching something to a child and seeing the lightbulb turn on when they finally make the connection with what you're teaching them.
Q: What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A: Even though I'm an online student, I love the support I get. The teachers and our success specialist are always there whenever I have questions or need help with something.
Q: Do you have a favorite professor or course? Why?
A: I'm just starting, so it's hard to pick; everyone is supportive.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: It's funny, growing up, I wouldn't say I liked school. If you had told me I'd be working to become an educator, I wouldn't have believed you. It all turned around when I was in high school. I had a teacher that took the time to support me and let me know that they believed in me.
