Senior Claudia Koblarczyk fell in love with education through her experience as a tutor. Her adoration of literature, passion as a mentor, and guidance from educators and peers has set her on the path to success. Now, she's paying it forward with plans to return to her alma mater, Reavis High School, as an English Teacher.
A little bit about Claudia
Q: Where is home for you?
A: I'm from Burbank, Illinois.
Q:What is your major?
A: I'm a Senior in English/Secondary Education.
Q: What do you enjoy about your campus experience, so far?
A: I love how inclusive staff and students are, and how open they are to including others in clubs and societies. It’s easy to find a place to fit in on campus.
Q: How did you know you wanted to go into the field of education?
A: I knew I wanted to get into the field of education after my experience with tutoring. I loved watching people grow and master areas in academics they struggled in originally. It’s a blessing to be a mentor for someone and to be that person they look up to.
Q: What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A: The College of Education is very involved in student’s lives—making sure they are on the right track in where they want to be with their major or minor. I love how they take initiative and support students in the process of becoming educators.
Q: Do you have a favorite professor, or course? Why?
A: My favorite educator would have to be Scott Filkins. As a high school teacher himself, he was able to provide us with experiences and evidence from his own classroom. He never fails to make everyone laugh at least once during class and he has such a caring personality—it’s hard to not like him.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I am fluent in Polish, and I graduated from Polish school with a Foreign Language Certificate in 2015. I originally wanted to be an ELL teacher, but the love for literature and language pulled me into the study of English.
Q: What are your future career plans after graduating?
A: After graduating, I want to teach English at the high school I graduated from, Reavis High School. I really loved and got along with all the staff, especially the English Language Arts teachers. “Once a Ram, always a Ram!”
