Learning and Education Studies Senior, Xue Yan Chen received a $1,050 Undergraduate Research Support grant for her capstone project. She is working to develop an interactive prototype application grounded in the keyword method and usability testing to access effectiveness on Spanish vocabulary recall and comprehension. Prior research showed the keyword method to be beneficial to learners of different ages and student with learning disabilities.
She hopes to explore the effects of the method and its potential incorporation into the design of future Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) tools. The Undergraduate Research Support grant is provided by the Illinois Office of Undergraudate Research.
After graduation, Xue plans to attend graduate school for a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction. One day she hopes to become a professional user experience (UX) designer and researcher.
