Lauren "Cal" Callahan is a senior and has known for a very long time that she's wanted to be a teacher.
A little bit about Cal:
Q: Where is home for you?
A: Western Springs, Illinois.
Q: What is your year and major?
A: I'm a Senior, and my major is Elementary Education.
Q: How did you know you wanted to go into the field of education?
A: I have wanted to go into education from a young age. Growing up I always admired my teachers and wanted to be just like them. As I've grown up, I still feel the same. I still have a deep respect for educators and a passion for working with kids. We teach them, and they teach us!
Q: What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A: I enjoy working with my cohort of peers daily, and I look forward to watching them grow as educators!
Q: Do you have a favorite professor or course? Why?
A: Dr. McMillian brings authenticity and valuable, topical discourse to our learning space.
Q: What do you enjoy about your campus experience so far?
A: I'm always down to take a walk around Urbana and hammock at Illini Grove. Urbana reminds me so much of home, it's so neat we have our campus here!
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I flew back from Ireland the day before I started my elementary school placement this semester!
Q: Tell us about your future career plans after graduating and why you want to pursue that field.
A: I intend to live and teach somewhere out west... unknowns like these are intimidating as well as thrilling!
