Special Education Junior Mike Rotter spent his summer riding a bike across the country from New York City to San Francisco with the Illini 4000 team. Every summer the group sets out on their cross-country adventure to raise money for cancer research and support services.
This summer Mike joined the team for a second time and rode in honor of Dr. David Zola who was his favorite professor and mentor. In total, the team biked around 5,000 miles over 78 days.
“Some of the highlights from this trip included talking to cancer patients and survivors, visiting national parks like Grand Teton and Yellowstone, reaching the Pacific Ocean in California, and experiencing so many cultures across the states.”
Applications for the 2020 Bike America Team are now open. If you're interested in embarking on a coast to coast journey to raise cancer awareness (and make friends along the way), you can learn more and apply here.
