Since she was six years old, Devon knew she wanted to pursue a career path that would allow her to be a mentor and give back to her community; years later, her plan is more developed. After graduating in 2021 from Middle Grades Education with a minor in Literacy and ESL, Devon aspires to pursue a career as an on-set teacher in the entertainment industry. Eventually she would also like to teach abroad at an international school in South Korea where she studied last spring.
A little bit about Devon
Q. What do you enjoy about your campus experiene so far?
A. I enjoyed the opportunities I was given to make friends, as well as tackling my own research opportunities. Outside of Education, I have ventured outside my comfort zone and pursued dancing, which led me to great opportunities such as getting the chance to perform at World of Dance Chicago this upcoming November.
Q. What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A. I enjoy the fact that the College of Education became my second home. The administration are always there to provide a familiar face, say hello, give advice, or offer a bit of their time to aimlessly chat.
Q. Tell us about your semester abroad:
A. I recently studied abroad spring semester in Seoul, South Korea. My main philosophy while I was abroad was to focus on what it is like to be a student in a country that is foreign to my culture and langugae; as a future literacy/ESL teacher, I want to have that understanding when my students who may come from a different country and/or speak a language different from my mother tongue.
One takeaway besides strengthening my teaching pedagogy is that my dream teaching location is to work in an international school in the US or out of the country.
Q. Tell us your future career plans:
A. After my five year commitment through Golden Apple, I aspire to pursue a career as an on-set teacher in an entertainment company. Additionally, in some point throughout my career, I would like to go back to South Korea and teach abroad in an international school. Another aspiration is to become a language coach for foreign actors to help with American English Dialects.
