Ivy is an Elementary Education major who is living her campus life to the fullest, experiencing all the unique things it has to offer—with the same wonder and enthusiasm that students will have in her future classroom!
A little bit about Ivy:
Q: Where is home for you?
A: Round Lake, IL.
Q: What is your year and major?
A: I'm a junior majoring in Elementary Education.
Q: What do you enjoy about the campus experience, so far?
A: I love that there is always something new to try. No matter how you think your day is going to go or what you think you are going to do, there is always something unique that catches you eye or some new activity you want to try.
Q: How did you know you wanted to go into the field of education?
A: I have always wanted to be a teacher. It was always the one career I cycled back to as a kid, and when I applied to college it was the only clear choice. I also just love being able to teach people and help students, there is something about the look on their face when they finally get something to click!
Q: What do you enjoy about the College of Education?
A: I enjoy that there is always someone to talk to. No matter when I choose to head to the College of Education there is always someone I know hanging around.
Q: Do you have a favorite professor or course? Why?
A: One of my favorite professors on campus is Karie Brown. I have taken a few courses with her and she always finds a way to make learning fun. Currently I have her in a math methods course and I have never felt as connected to math as I do with her and she is always someone who cares about her students and checking in with us when she knows something is wrong or just in general.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I am a three-year member of the Marching Illini Colorguard, and in 2021 I read 83 books!
Q: Tell us about your future plans, post-graduation.
A: After graduating I plan on returning home to Round Lake to teach at a local elementary school. The town I grew up in means so much to me and has shaped me into the person I am. Without it I would not have been given the opportunities I have and I would love to be able to give back to the community that raised me.
