ODYSSEY PROJECT ADVISOR AND STUDENT EXPERIENCE COORDINATOR

The Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities (IPRH), http://www.iprh.illinois.edu/ at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a half time (.50 FTE) Odyssey Project Advisor and Student Experience Coodinator to Advise and support Odyssey Project students to promote their retention and success. Teach up to one course per year in the Odyssey Project curriculum and provide onsite facilitation of course delivery. Recruit students for the Odyssey Project and encourage alumni engagement, representing IPRH in the community to these ends. Work closely with the Odyssey instructional team and IPRH Assistant Director for Education and Outreach to achieve program goals.
Major Duties & Responsibilities include primary contact for all applicants to Odyssey Project courses, advising them on eligibility and assisting with application questions. Provide student orientations at the start of each semester, guiding students as to the basics of university coursework and expectations. Provide comprehensive support to Odyssey students in order to promote their retention and success, working closely with course instructional teams to monitor students’ progress and ascertain the individuated needs of enrolled students. Monitor student attendance and follow up with retention in mind. Solicit student feedback at multiple stages in their trajectory, and aid the Assistant Director for Education and Outreach with Odyssey Project assessment and evaluation goals. Coordinate and facilitate all activities that occur in the evening Odyssey classroom session, including directing and organizing the work of interns and volunteers to maximize opportunities for student support.
Teach up to one course per year for the Odyssey Project, as needed. Coordinate the efforts of course instructional teams in making student-progress assessments and arriving at student final evaluations. Work with Odyssey Project instructional staff and Assistant Director for Education and Outreach to offer co-curricular activities to enrich the Odyssey learning experience.
Required: Masters degree in a Humanities discipline required. Five years’ teaching experience in a higher education setting; experience teaching with the Odyssey Project and/or a similar Adult Education program. PhD in a Humanities discipline preferred.
