The Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies (CEAPS) is currently seeking a graduate assistant for our Asian Educational Media Service (AEMS) Library. An engagement program of CEAPS, AEMS promotes the understanding of Asian cultures and people through library collection and media programming for educators of all levels. AEMS introduces new documentary and independent films to scholars and students at the annual Asian Film Expo held in conjunction with the Association for Asian Studies’ Annual Conference. The AEMS Library holds a collection of more than 6,000 media and curriculum materials from or about Asia available for viewing in the library or for loan to local patrons or patrons of the Illinois Heartland Library System.
- FTE/ Hours per week: 25%(10 hrs per week) – 33%(13.2 hrs per week)
- Job duration: 9-month appointment, AY 2019-2020 (August 16, 2019 – May 15, 2020)
Major responsibilities include:
- Manage AEMS library circulation; check outs/returns/re-shelfing of materials in media library
- Work with Illinois Heartland Library System to barcode new acquisitions in Polaris and send items for cataloging as needed.
- Maintain regular hours at AEMS at least 2 days a week
- Manage AEMS website maintenance and communication
- Monitor AEMS/VASP reception and respond to phone/email inquiries
Required qualifications: Attention to detail, punctuality, dependability, and communication skills
Preferred: Background in Library Science, East Asian Studies, humanities, media, or education.
