blog posts Beach Day During a Pandemic Jun 29, 2020 11:00 am by firstname.lastname@example.org Images A typical summer vacation spot is the beach, people get to relax, enjoy the sun and play in the water. Spending a day on the beach is a great way to enjoy time with friends and family. We must still be aware that there is a pandemic happening around us. Illinois has entered the fourth stage of reopening, which means beaches will open soon. Thousands of residents of Illinois have traveled across state borders to enjoy a day on the beach. If you are planning a trip to the beach any time soon it is important to keep some tips in mind. Make sure you are aware of any swimming advisories. Check the rules before getting to the beach, some beaches only allow certain activities on the beach, while others may require a mask or have new rules in place for social distancing. Swim with caution. While experts say that transmission through water is highly unlikely, research has shown that the virus can last up to three days in freshwater, fewer days in saltwater. With social distancing, the virus is diluted in the water and highly unlikely to infect others. Try to avoid putting head into the water and swallowing the water. Practice social distancing and stay 6 feet away and those not in your household. Wearing a mask depends on the rules of the beach. If you are practicing safe social distancing while lounging, it may be okay to take off your mask. Wind at the beach makes it safer than some other areas, by diffusing the virus particles. Wear a mask when walking, in the parking lot, or anywhere where you might encounter more people at closer proximity. Do not count that there will be any facilities open such as bathrooms and concessions. Do not forget basic beach safety such as wearing sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher, protective clothing, and keeping hydrated. If you are planning a day at the beach please be cautious and prepare! Remember to enjoy your time at the beach and protect yourself and those around you by social distancing! Delete Edit embedded media in the Files Tab and re-insert as needed.
