On October 2nd, 2019, the Urban Health program hosted a Doctoral Student Forum for underrepresented racial/ethnic minority nursing students of the Chicago area. Objectives of the evening included rich discussion on the advantages and challenges associated with the experience of being a person of color in doctoral nursing education. Specifically, three UIC PhD alumna spoke on their expereince in faciliatating opportunities associated with successful clinical and profesional endeavors such as publications, conferences, and mentor mentee relationships. Dr. Constance Dallas, Dr. Mary Maryland, and Dr. Donna Calvin (pictured left to right) were available to answer qustions from students in graduate programs from UIC and Rush University. Alumna and students were also participating over zoom, sharing their contagious passion on increasing or fostering the success and support for underrepresented students in this program. Overall, the participants and panel members agreed that it was an intimate evening, fulll of topics that warrant another night of conversation and companionship.
