In February 2020, UHP offered five mock interview sessions for prospective BSN and Graduate Entry MS students. Over 100 applicants participated in the mock interviews to prepare them for their upcoming interviews with faculty in late February and March. The mock interviews were held in-person and some participants participated via zoom from across the country.
We are very grateful to the interviewers from the Urban Health Program College of Nursing Student Association (UCONSA) who volunteered their time and provided their feedback and advice for the prospective students.
The voluntary mock interviews held by UHP are created to empower underrepresented populations and racial/ethnic minorities to succeed in their real interviews. As one participant mentioned
" As a young student with limited experience in the interview process, the questions that were asked in the small group really helped me think through and formulate potential responses to similar questions in a real life situation."
Another participant, who received the official l interview later, wroter an email to UHP:
"Having completed my interview for the Graduate Entry Nursing Program this morning, I'm just reaching out to say thank you for your prompt responses and administrative help throughout this process. I value those positive interactions and appreciate the time and consideration given to your applicants. The students and faculty involved in both the mock and official interviews have made the prospect of attending UIC all the more exciting."
The hope for UHP is to have participants become more comfortable speaking in a group and to succeed in their interview with intention to be accepted into their desired programs.
