A U. of I. student reported that she was the victim of deceptive practices. The student responded to an online job advertisement seeking a pet sitter. The unknown person who posted the advertisement agreed to pay the student $300 per week and sent her a check for $3,380 with directions to deposit the check, keep $300 for herself and send the balance to a third party. The student later discovered the original check bounced. At the time of the report, efforts were underway to stop the check that the student had mailed Saturday to a third party.
