Why Information Sciences: I want to major in Information Science because the pandemic has shown just how vital technology will be in our lives. It has reshaped how we interact, conduct business, communicate, etc. This was most evident in the student organization I am part of. As everything went online during quarantine, there was suddenly a greater need for technical skills such as navigating certain software and understanding information more deeply. Dealing with technical hiccups while leading a committee in a virtual environment proved challenging at first and made me realize that I lacked certain skills that I would not learn under my current major. Majoring in Information Sciences will help me develop these skills that will better prepare me along my career path.
Furthermore, I am also interested in how Information Science looks at technology from multiple perspectives. As mentioned before, considering that technology will be more integral to our lives moving forward, I would like to better understand these interactions and the relationship between society and technology. This is why I also enjoyed taking IS 202 as I was able to dive deeper into this topic. Information Sciences provides me the opportunity to be a more well-rounded individual that is conscious of the impact of technology and makes decisions based on this knowledge.
