The Reimagine Our Future Competition Website and Details
The team’s project diverts coffee grounds from landfill and instead uses them to grow oyster mushrooms. The team located the concept for their project through analysis of the environmental challenges posed by sending coffee grounds to landfills. They seek to limit the emission of greenhouse gases and prevent groundwater and soil contamination by repurposing the coffee grounds as a useful growing substrate.
The Reimagine Our Future Competition is in its third year. The projects were evaluated on a 60-point scale with criteria like Novelty, Feasibility and Scalability/Replicability used to decide the winner of the $2000 prize.
