  • UIUC Solar Sites Open House

    April 22, 9–10:30 AM  Ever wonder how far UIUC has come in solar energy use? Visit the UIUC Solar Sites hosted on Topia, an interactive online platform, to learn about campus areas producing solar energy! Contacts will be available to answer questions about the solar installation at each site. During the virtual open house, contact people will be available at each solar site.

  • Summer 2021 Career Center Internship

    The Career Center is hiring two undergraduate interns for the summer.  These students will be responsible for a combination of outreach duties, providing a review of student resumes/cover letters, leading career readiness presentations and workshops, and some other project-based work for our office.  If you know students who are searching for a summer internship, encourage them to apply!  We welcome undergraduate applicants from all programs and disciplines.  Applications should be sent to me via e-mail by end of the day on Monday, May 3rd.

  • 'Manufacturing for a Sustainable Future.’ Lecture

    Join John Sutherland, a leading authority on the application of sustainability principles to industrial issues, as he discusses three decades of research to reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing and explore its social impacts. Sutherland is Professor and the Fehsenfeld Family Head of the Department of Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University. The lecture will take place via Zoom webinar link Passcode 909454 on April 13 at 10 a.m.

    April 15, 8:30 AM–6:30 PM  "Wild Zones: Designing for Urban Wildlife at the Intersection of Landscape Architecture, Biology, and Public Policy" convenes designers, scientists, and planners to discuss new ways to increase biodiversity in urban environments. Join this day-long symposium which convenes experts from landscape architecture, science, and policy!

  • CABBI Offers New Summer Internship!

    A new research opportunity for undergraduates interested in a STEM career will launch this summer at the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts Innovation (CABBI). The Research Internship in Sustainable Bioenergy (RISE) is a 10-week summer program designed to provide research and career development opportunities to undergraduates from groups underrepresented in STEM fields. Students will be paired with a mentor, attend seminars, and present their work. $4,800 stipend; application deadline is April 23

  • Spring 2021 UIUC Bird Strike

    Sun, April 4, to Sat May 8. The Champaign County Audubon Society needs your help in finding birds to see which buildings on campus are prone to the most bird collisions. We will need volunteers to walk routes on campus, looking for bird collisions and submitting data. No prior experience with birds is needed! There are two routes to be covered twice a day, 7-9AM, and 5-7PM shifts.

    Here are recommended places to check for local jobs and internships for summer:

    City/Village Offices & Department employment pages; City Park District; County Forest Preserve District; Local design firms; County Green groups/projects; Local corporations with sustainability in the news; Non-profit organizations. Keep in mind YOU might bring some knowledge in sustainability to a role or you might bring more of the design element to a role. Think about the skills you can gain in different types of roles!

    Searching for these will take researching on the specific websites, not relying on google or handshake.

    Student-led projects with a budget of less than $10,000 are eligible for expedited review. All SSC projects must make a substantial impact on students. This may be a direct impact or an impact through education and engagement. All SSC funding is 100% from student green fees, so the projects funded by the students must benefit them. SSC encourages innovation and new technologies – creative projects are encouraged to apply.

    Part-Time Job: iSEE hiring a student to develop video content on Sustainability

    The 10-hour-a-week position will run through the Spring 2021 semester and likely into the summer. Duties include researching content, recommending an appropriate video format, and working on a script for the iSEE videographer. The student will report to iSEE staff and work closely with an ad-hoc working group on the project.
