What's happening?
The University of Illinois is transitioning MATLAB distribution from the vendor-provided MATLAB portal back to the WebStore. The special terms obtained during the COVID pandemic that allowed students to download/install MATLAB on personal machines expire on September 30, 2021.
After September 30, new installations of MATLAB on student personal machines are prohibited. MATLAB training modules that are provided as part of our current contract will no longer be available.
There is a one-month grace period on all current installations, and the product will not stop functioning under your current license file until October 30.
Continued Student MATLAB Access
All University of Illinois students need to transition to the free MATLAB Virtual Application for Students offer available on the WebStore.
Continued Staff/Faculty MATLAB Access
All University Staff/Faculty who have downloaded and installed MATLAB from the MATLAB portal will need to register through the WebStore MATLAB Concurrent License for Faculty and Staff ESD offer and follow offer instructions on applying the new license file to your current MATLAB installation.
Please be aware the MATLAB portal provided access to all MATLAB toolboxes, and the concurrent model only allows for free access to the most popular toolboxes. Please review the WebStore offer for a listing of toolboxes included in our contract and contact webstore@illinois.edu to purchase any required toolboxes not included in our current contract.
Transfer Files from MATLAB Online Before October 30
Anyone using online storage from MATLAB Online or any online tools will need to move their files before October 30. There are several options to complete this:
- Select the files/folders from the CFB (Current Folder Browser) and click the download button on the tool strip
- Synchronize their files with the desktop using MATLAB Drive Connector
- Go to MATLAB Drive online (drive.matlab.com) and download the files the same way as option 1 (highlight files/folders, and choose download)
MATLAB training modules that are provided as part of our current contract will no longer be available after September 30, 2021 and please complete all training modules prior to this expiration date.
