Section 1 of the I-9 is to be signed by the employee no later than the first day of employment in the US for pay, and section 2 must be signed by the employer/employer representative no later than the third day of employment. If sections 1 and 2 of the I-9 are completed using Tracker’s remote workflow, the remote I-9 must be signed by the employer representative, and the remote I-9 must be accepted in Tracker by the I-9 manager no later than the third day of employment in order to be compliant for E-Verify.
When completing an I-9, please remember to instruct hires to leave the social security number field blank in section 1 if they do not have an SSN. The SSN is the only number that can be entered in the SSN field in section 1 of the I-9. If the hire does not have an SSN, they will be able to save section 1 of their I-9 in Tracker with the SSN field blank.
