Our planet Earth is warming, and the global climate is changing at a rate like never seen before! The global surface temperature has increased successively in the last four decades compared to any decade that preceded it since 1850 mainly driven by an increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations especially carbon dioxide (CO2). The concentration of CO2 was recorded to be the highest at least in the last 2 million years in 2019. The figure demonstrates the spatial distribution of CO2 gas emissions in 2018 across the globe. The red color highlights the densely populated areas of the world that emit CO2 significantly to the atmosphere. China, the United States, India, Russia and Europe can be noticed as the hotspots of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. In 2015, 196 parties signed the Paris Climate Agreement to control the GHG emissions to keep the global mean temperature under 2°, preferably under 1.5° compared to the pre-industrial level. However, we need to act fast to heal Mother Earth towards a better and sustainable future! In this hour of need, I want to reiterate what Alisa Singer said: "As we witness our planet transforming around us we watch, listen, measure … respond."
