In 2021, due to the success of electronic tolling, the Illinois Tollway eliminated all cash toll collections. Illinois Tollway’s Pay By Plate allows you to enter a license plate and payment information up to 14 days after travel to capture tolls. Multiple vehicles can be added to a Pay By Plate account. A valid credit card must remain on the account until the tolls are fully processed, which may take up to 30 days after you use the Tollway. University T-Cards cannot be stored in a Pay By Plate account. Once the charges are processed on a personal credit card, a receipt can be obtained. Submit the toll charges for reimbursement through Chrome River. When driving a rental vehicle or university vehicle, add the state and license plate number of the vehicle to your Pay by Plate account and the tolls will be charged automatically. If you forget to add a vehicle to your account or choose not to set up an account, you still have 14 days to pay for it online after going through a toll. Visit https://www.illinoistollway.com/ for more information or to set up a Pay by Plate account. Please note, unpaid tolls will be assessed additional fees, up to $25 per missed toll. Additional fees for unpaid tolls will not be reimbursed.
