Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The 2024-25 academic year here at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is underway, and already off to a wonderful start. Our faculty and staff were busy over the summer, preparing to welcome record numbers to the College of Education.
This fall, 16 new tenure system and specialized faculty members join our Education at Illinois ranks. This group of scholars expands our capacity for teaching, research, and mentorship of graduate students and will provide fresh leadership and perspective to guide the College's perennial areas of strength. Three new postdoctoral scholars are also in place to help lead new research, in collaboration with faculty mentors.
Additionally, we are thrilled to welcome the largest first-year undergraduate class in 50 years to the Education Building this fall! We are extremely pleased and look forward to the creativity and insight these students' endeavors will bring to our campus and beyond.
Outstanding research, teaching, and service distinguish our Education at Illinois community, and recent examples are highlighted in this edition of our College of Education newsletter. From the development of licensure programs for trauma-informed practices in schools, to advancing equity in historically inequitable fields, our faculty, staff, students, and alumni continue moving the needle forward through education.
We have an exciting series of fall events planned, including the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series. Momentum is strong in our Education at Illinois community, and I look forward to sharing more success throughout the semester!
Yours in Orange & Blue,
Chrystalla Mouza
Dean, College of Education
