Courtney Gordon is a 2022 graduate of the College of Education with a degree in Middle Grades Education. She was a part of the Illinois Leadership Center's I-Program. We talked with Courtney about her experience at the College of Education and what she's up to now.
Q: Where are you working?
A: I work at the New Sullivan Performing Arts Academy on the southeast side of Chicago.
Q: What is your role or position?
A: I am the 5th and 6th-grade science teacher and the 6th - 8th-grade science lead.
Q: How long have you been in this position?
A: I started this position just after graduation in August of this year.
Q: How did the College of Education prepare you to succeed in your current role?
A: The College of Education helped me succeed in this position with my courses. The courses taught me all the necessary science concepts, and my science pedagogy class helped me understand how to teach the standards. I can adapt lessons to fit my students based on what I learned.
Q: Is there anything you miss about the College of Education?
A: I miss the community I was able to develop with my cohort members.
Q: What are your future career or educational goals?
A: I plan on pursuing a master's degree in the next three years.
