The University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business and Salt & Light partner to bring the IRS-sponsored VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program to the local community. The VITA program is designed to help lower-income households, older adults, people with disabilities as well as non-English speakers prepare their tax returns.
Tax preparation services are FREE. Plus, VITA tax preparers help people receive eligible tax credits to get money back. VITA services begin February 1st.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program served a record number of taxpayers in 2024. Over 700 tax returns were completed through VITA, an increase of 40% over 2023. This amazing partnership includes undergraduate and graduate accounting students as well as faculty from Gies College of Business. Under the direction of Mandi Alt, instructor of Gies Accountancy, the VITA program helps students get real-life tax experience while helping the Champaign-Urbana community.
We’re looking forward to serving people again in 2025!
