In 1996, Proposition 209 in California banned the use of race in admissions across the state's higher education system. This virtual OCCRL Equity Academy on July 30 focused on understanding lessons from the West Coast to address the potential impact of the recent U.S. Supreme Court's decision on race-conscious admissions in the Midwest. The keynote speaker, Dr. Marissa Vasquez, as well as Lorenzo Baber, Maria Wright, and Ayinde Rochon, discussed their tools and strategies to support equitable access for racially minoritized students across higher education contexts.
