Tamorah, a sophomore from Bolingbrook, Illinois, is majoring in Early Childhood Education. In addition to her coursework, she a member of Aspiring Educators, an organization of undergraduate and graduate students preparing for careers in education. Her favorite experience at Illinois are the movie screening events at the Spurlock Museum. Upon graduation, her goal is to get jumpstarted on her philosophy of the importance of the individual and their values and contributions in the classroom.
Tamorah is extremely grateful for the Dr. Christopher Dunbar, Jr. Urban Education Scholarship and its support in helping her show the world what she has to offer—and change the lives of her future students.
“Thank you for supporting my goal to help children embrace their uniqueness, pursue their dreams, and create an environment as a future early childhood educator that values every individual. Everyone is well accustomed to the growing cost of higher education, which can prove difficult when trying to focus and chase your career goals and aspirations. This scholarship provides me with the financial support I need to pursue my studies in Early Childhood Education, and ultimately make a difference in the lives of the future children I will teach. Once I finish my studies, I aspire to create a classroom where every child feels valued for who they are and free to express their individuality—heavily based on my journey and experiences growing up. This scholarship is a step toward realizing and pursuing these goals I hold very closely.” - Tamorah M. Johnson
