Jamie, a sophomore from Mount Prospect, Illinois, is part of the Secondary Education Mathematics degree program in the College of Education. She chose her major because she has always had a strong passion for mathematics and helping people. In addition to her coursework, Jamie works as a Girls on the Run coach and as a babysitter. On campus, she is involved in the Epsilon Delta Professional Teaching Fraternity. Upon graduation, her goal is to teach in a high school math classroom in the suburbs of Chicago.
Jamie is thankful and grateful for the Dorothy and Douglas Dirks Scholarship and its support in helping young adults, like her and the students she will eventually teach, to achieve their goals.
“The Dirks' generous contributions are going to help me achieve my goals of becoming an educator and pay it forward to future generations. This scholarship has granted me the opportunity to achieve my goals with less financial stress.” - Jamie Vassos
