Hello NLRS Partner,
At the recent PWG meeting, several nonpoint source research gaps that may inform the next update of the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy (Strategy 2.0) were identified and discussed. The research gaps are intended as a high-level overview of potential research directions and do not include funding estimates at this time. This slide summarizes the nine research areas that were highlighted and discussed.
Partners who attended suggested we initially try to understand the timing of research funding opportunities across NLRS partner organizations. If your organization issues research RFPs (or has similar funding opportunities), please consider sharing the general timing of those cycles?
The intent is not to suggest that partners would necessarily contribute funding, but rather to understand the landscape of existing funding cycles. This information may help inform future conversations about whether research priorities related to the Strategy 2.0 science agenda could align with existing opportunities or supplement other state and federal sources.
Thank you for any information you’re willing to share. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
University of Illinois Extension NLRS Team and the NLRS Steering Committee
