NLRS Partners,
We are pleased to share that Illinois has transitioned Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy reporting from book-style publications to a modern online data portal. The NLRS Data Portal preserves the original structure and logic of NLRS reporting while making statewide progress easier to explore and understand. It improves transparency, increases accessibility of information, and supports informed, science-based decision-making. The portal integrates historical context with annual updates, offers more than 150 downloadable charts, maps, and data files, and provides new tools to explore long-term nutrient, program, and partner information across the state. Hosted on the Great Lakes to Gulf website, it was developed in cooperation with The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center and University of Illinois National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
You may access it here: Illinois NLRS Data Portal
The Portal currently provides sector implementation data, research updates, and partner information through 2022, along with water data through the 2021 water year. More recent data through 2025 will be incorporated in a 2026 update, along with an executive summary.
At launch, the Portal includes an interactive map showing point source sector metrics. Interactive maps for the agricultural and stormwater sectors, as well as statewide water quality data, will be added in 2026.
We invite you to explore the site and become familiar with the available tools and information. As you use the Portal over time, please feel free to reach out if you notice something that could be improved or if you encounter information that would benefit from clarification. Your ongoing insights help ensure the Portal remains useful and accurate for the partnership.
Sincerely,
Illinois NLRS Steering Committee
