Illinois NLRS Program and Project Narratives

This site features NGO partner program and project narratives, searchable by title, date, and categories. These narratives have been reported in the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy (NLRS) annual reports and updates. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of all nutrient loss-related initiatives across Illinois.

The NLRS is a statewide, collaborative effort aimed at reducing the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus entering Illinois waterways. This page specifically highlights NGO-led efforts that have contributed to the strategy since 2023.

  • Lake Vermilion Watershed Project: 2015-16 Update

    The Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association is expanding its watershed partnership effort into a more formal structure in the Lake Vermilion watershed. This project is modeled on the Lake Spring field watershed partnership, which has been very successful in helping to manage the lake nitrate levels. The goal is to use N-WATCH™ to improve nitrogen management decisions throughout the growing season and implement a consistent number of N-rate trials to develop a MRTN for the Lake Vermilion watershed. Joining IFCA in this effort are the Vermilion County Farm Bureau, Vermilion County SWCD, and Aqua Illinois.
