After providing and supporting water testing equipment and supplies to various county farm bureaus and soil and water conservation district offices for many years through the Free, Confidential Water Testing Program, the IL Corn Growers Association shifted gears to partner with Illinois Soybean Association to offer a contest for Future Farmers of America chapters across the state.
FFA chapters develop and test hypotheses about nitrogen movement and potential loss from various agricultural production field settings. Participants will need to identify a minimum of three different locations with differing water sources and management styles at each site. They then develop a written report discussing their process, findings, and what best management practices can address nutrient loss. Cash prizes are awarded to the winning 10 chapters.
