The Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association continues to work with water supply officials located within priority watersheds throughout Illinois. Monthly operational reports are shared with IFCA by the treatment facilities, assessing nitrate and phosphorus levels. IFCA continues to work with the Sangamon Soil and Water Conservation District and Springfield city Water, Light, and Power to promote best management practices among local growers and ag retail members in the watershed as well as help host a “Best Management Practices” meeting each year. IFCA also participates in both 319 and Regional Conservation Partnership Program grants in the Lake Springfield and Lake Decatur watersheds, focusing on practices that help reduce the loss of nitrogen and phosphorus. Information received on lake nutrient levels and varying programs throughout varying watersheds are shared with our members via newsletters and direct messages, where the 4Rs and adoption of specific fertilizer management practices are promoted.
