Through its Lawn to Lake program, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, IISG, surveyed Indiana residents about lawn care to learn their perspectives and share information about reducing the use of chemicals and water. The program promotes natural, low-input, lawn care practices to reduce the use of lawn care chemicals and water for lawn irrigation.
In 2023, an IISG intern surveyed Indiana residents to obtain baseline information about their practices, knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and information needs regarding lawn care. The survey also provided information about reducing the use of chemicals and water in lawn care practices.
Of the 470 survey participants, 88% responded positively about environmentally friendly lawn care practices, indicating that they found them beneficial, and 68% found environmentally friendly lawn care practices to be enjoyable. The information from Indiana residents in this survey will supplement a 2019 survey conducted in Illinois and will guide further development of Lawn to Lake outreach tools and activities.
