    We would like to provide you with an update regarding the off-campus shooting incident described in a Community Safety Notice earlier this week. The Urbana Police Department has identified and arrested two of the people involved.

    The Urbana Police Department released information this morning about a shooting which occurred around 2:04 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of West Springfield Avenue, Urbana (map), where a large party was taking place.

    A U. of I. student walking near Altgeld Hall was approached by four male suspects who attempted to engage the student in conversation. The student continued to walk and was subsequently struck in the head by one of the suspects who was carrying a hard object in his hand.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received a report that a student was sexually assaulted. A suspect has been identified and police are continuing to investigate.  A Campus Security Authority later notified the Department that there was a similar attempt at the same event.

    On Wednesday morning, the University of Illinois Police Department was informed by a Campus Security Authority that a student had inappropriately touched three other students on different occasions, at least two of which occurred at a university residence hall. The offender is a person known to the victims.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has arrested a student who was identified as the offender in two incidents of sexual violence that took place Aug. 25 and Sept. 16. The student was in custody Thursday at the Champaign County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.     On Sunday night, a Campus Security Authority reported to the University of Illinois Police Department that one student was sexually assaulted and another student was sexually abused in two separate incidents on August 25, 2017 and September 16, 2017 by a single offender known to the victims in a university residence hall.

    A U. of I. student reported that a wallet was stolen from a residence hall room between 1-10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12. According to the report, the student was sleeping in the room at the time of the burglary, and the door was locked.

    At about 9:48 p.m. Wednesday night, police responded to the area of First and Green streets, Champaign, after receiving reports of shots fired. Preliminary evidence suggests that the shooting was the result of a domestic altercation which took place inside an apartment.

    Last night, Robbie M. Patton turned himself in to the Champaign County Jail. He remains in custody this morning and is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on charges of murder and aggravated battery with a firearm for his alleged role in the Sept. 25 shooting in the 300 block of East Green Street, Champaign.

    Local law enforcement agencies announced they are looking for Robbie M. Patton, 18, of Champaign, who is wanted for murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with Sunday’s incident.

    A burglary took place at approximately 2:02 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, in multiple rooms in Trelease Hall, 901 W. College Court in Urbana.

  • Community Safety Notice

    This morning, at approximately 12:38 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of East Green Street, Champaign, after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. When they arrived, officers found four people who had been hit by gunfire and another person who was struck by a vehicle while running from the area. One person, a 22-year-old man who is not a university student, died from his injuries after being transported to the hospital. The other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received information from a Campus Security Authority that a student reported she was sexually assaulted during the evening hours of Thursday, August 25, 2016 at a fraternity house on South First Street in Champaign by a person unknown to the victim.

    The University of Illinois Police Department on Monday received a report from a Campus Security Authority that a student was sexually assaulted at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at an apartment in the 700 block of South Gregory Place, Urbana, by a person known to the victim.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received information from the Champaign Police Department that a student reported she was sexually assaulted during the early morning hours on Friday, August 19, 2016 at a fraternity house in Champaign.

  • Attempted Robberies

    The University of Illinois Police Department was informed on Monday of two attempted robberies, one near Sixth Street and Springfield Avenue, Champaign, and the other near Coler Avenue and Main Street, Urbana. It is believed that the offenders in both incidents are the same people.

  • Attempted Robbery

    The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery which occurred at 8:56 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the 200 block of North Goodwin Avenue, Urbana. The victim was unharmed, and no property was stolen.

    The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery of a wallet and cellular telephone in the 2800 block of South Orchard Street, Urbana.

    The University of Illinois Police Department received a report from a Campus Security Authority Monday evening that a student was sexually abused during the early morning on Friday, July 15, in a Champaign residence hall by a person known to the victim.

    The University of Illinois Police Department is seeking information about an incident which occurred at 1 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of East Daniel Street, Champaign. A witness reported that he saw a large group of people arguing across the street from a campus bar, and one of the men fired a single shot into the air.

    The University of Illinois Police Department received a report Friday afternoon that a student was sexually assaulted at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, on the main Quad by a person known to the victim.

    The Champaign Police Department has arrested a man alleged to have sexually assaulted a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign student around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East White Street, Champaign.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received a report from a student that she was sexually abused at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, near Burrill Hall, 407 S. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana (map).  The victim reported that 3 or 4 unknown college age males approached her, picked her up and groped her.  No additional suspect information was provided.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received a report from a Campus Security Authority that a student was sexually assaulted during the early morning on Saturday, April 9, at a fraternity house by a person known to the victim.

    The Champaign Police Department has informed the University of Illinois Police Department that a student reported being a victim of sexual abuse during the evening on Saturday, April 9, at a fraternity house by a person known to the victim.

    The University of Illinois Police Department on Monday received a report that a student was sexually assaulted early Sunday morning, Feb. 7, at a fraternity house by a person known to the victim.

    The Champaign Police Department requested today that we notify you of four recent incidents, all of which occurred in similar areas just off-campus.

  • Update - Attempted Robbery

    We have new information about the alleged attempted robbery which was the subject of Sunday’s Campus Safety Notice. The person who reported that the incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Saturday near First Street and Gregory Drive, Champaign, has told investigators that the incident never occurred.

  • Robbery

    A robbery took place at approximately 0200 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, in the parking garage of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (KCPA), 500 S. Goodwin Ave.

  • Attempted Robbery

    An attempted robbery took place at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, near the intersection of Gregory Drive and First Street in Champaign.

  • Aggravated Battery

    The victim was walking northbound on the west sidewalk in the 700 Block of South Sixth Street, when an offender unknown to the victim ran up from behind and struck the victim in the back of the head causing the victim to fall to the ground and blackout. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The offender was described as a male with an average build, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a gray sweatshirt and matching gray sweatpants. The offender was last seen running southbound from the scene.

  • Armed Robbery

    The victim reported being in his parked vehicle at 1006 W. Stoughton, Urbana, when two offenders approached him and asked to use his cellphone. When he refused, one of the offenders displayed a small gun. The other offender demanded his money, wallet and phone. After the victim provided them with his money, the offenders pulled him from the car and an offender struck the victim in the head with the gun. They took his cellphone, watch and wallet. Both offenders fled northeast from the area. The victim was not seriously injured. The first offender is described as a short male, wearing a black mask and jacket. The second offender is described as a tall, skinny male wearing a red jacket and beanie. Both are described to be in their late teens to early twenties.

    Not long after we sent out today’s earlier Campus Safety Notice regarding a pepper-spray incident on the Quad, we received information helping us to identify the juvenile offender and others who were with that person at the time. We are continuing to investigate.

  • Aggravated Battery

    The victim was walking in the second level of Parking Lot C7 when the offender struck him in the eye. A witness reported that there were three subjects near the victim prior to hearing one of them strike the victim. When he looked over to the victim, the three subjects got into a vehicle and drove from the area. The victim was transported to the hospital with an injury above his eye. One of the subjects is described as a white male, approximately 25-30 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 210 pounds. The subject had red hair and a beard. No further descriptions of the other two are currently available. The offender left in a white Dodge Charger, believed to be a model between 2011-2013.

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received a report that a student was sexually assaulted at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, in a University residence hall by a person known to the victim.

  • Sexual Assault

    The University of Illinois Police Department has received a report that a student was sexually assaulted Sunday, September 20, at an on campus apartment in Urbana by a person known to the victim.

  • Arson

    The following arson took place at 9:38 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, at Wardall Hall, 1010 W. Illinois St., in Urbana: The Urbana Fire Department was dispatched to a small fire on the 8th floor of the building. Someone set papers on a cork board on fire. The fire was extinguished by the time firefighters arrived. This is the second incident to occur on this floor within a week. At 9:45 p.m. on Monday, September 14, a small fire on the 8th floor of the building was extinguished by a resident. Someone set papers in a recycling bin on fire. Investigators believe both fires were set intentionally. No one was injured in either incident.

    The Champaign Police Department has informed the University of Illinois Police Department that a student was sexually assaulted around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a private certified housing unit by a person known to the victim.
