  • Illinois Leadership Center Offers Two Free Seminars

    Online Integrity

    The Integrity program focuses on the skills necessary for interpersonal and organizational ethical leadership. Students who participate in Integrity are faced with ethical challenges and learn how to successfully navigate them. 

    This i-Program will be completed online via Canvas and takes approximately six hours to complete. Students must complete all modules associated with the program to receive credit. 

    Students can complete this training anywhere at any time before the completion due date.

    Key Dates for this i-Program: 

    Registration Opens: October 25th
    Registration Closes: November 10th
    Modules Due: November 15th
    by 11:59pm  In-Person Session: N/A

    Rolls-Royce Innovation

    The Rolls-Royce Innovation program focuses on skills related to innovation, creativity, and diversity of ideas in problem solving. Students who participate in Innovation will develop skills in these areas and also an understanding of their dominant problem-solving style and its impact on organizations and people.

    This i-Program is a six-hour seminar that take place fully in person, lunch is provided to participants. Students will participate in activities and discussion related to the i-Program with other students and facilitators. There are no modules to complete prior to this program. Students must attend the entirety of the in-person seminar to receive credit for the program.

    In-Person Session: Saturday, December 4th from 10:00 AM -4:00 PM (Illini Union Ballroom A)

    Nikki D & The Browns aka The Sisters of Thunder is a family-based group from Toledo, Ohio. Their unique style is gospel with blues riffs and grooves, all punctuated by Nikki D’s soulful steel guitar and powerful vocals. In 2016, Guitar World magazine described Nikki as “the Jimi Hendrix of Sacred Steel”. Their infectious energy will have you up on your feet.

    Sinfonia da Camera: Concert on Saturday, October 16, 2021 - Foellinger Great Hall

    Sinfonia da Camera will commence the evening with Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture, with its lively themes serving to musically portray Maestro Hobson’s English birthplace. He will then take the stage as both conductor and pianist for Rachmaninoff’s instantly recognizable and virtuosic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.     Sigma Alpha Iota is hosting our annual Benefit Concert and silent auction set for November 14th between 2 - 5 pm. All proceeds raised will be going to SAI Philanthropies which leads and supports projects such as ‘People-to-People’ and Bold Notes.   • UI Black Chorus Annual Fall Concert RETURN

    UI Black Chorus presents this concert as a celebration of the return to in-person concerts and the 40th anniversary of Dr. Ollie Watts Davis as Artistic Director and Conductor. They share the music and literature of Black Americans with excerpts from James Weldon Johnson’s verse, God’s Trombones, Davis’s spiritual arrangements, and selections from the gospel music canon. These live-stream performances are exclusviely for hospital patients in the Champaign-Urbana community and take place in Smith Recital Hall on Thursdays at 7:30 PM.     Do you have a passion for performing in the community or would like to polish your public speaking skills? Becca Kasdan will lead a public speaking workshop tailored towards community outreach and engagement on Thursday, September 30 at 7:30 PM in Smith Memorial Recital Hall.

    Yoga for musicians will be virtually led every Sunday from 4:30-5:30 PM in the Music Building, Room 0359 or with the option to take the class virtually from home. Please bring a yoga mat and register for the event at the following link each week:

    The College of Fine and Applied Arts is looking to engage Wellness Support Associates (WSA) in a number of our buildings for the start of the Fall semester. The role of a WSA is to help enact the university’s COVID-19 building access. This will be accomplished by checking building access status in the Safer Illinois app of those wishing to enter university instructional buildings.  The hourly wage is $14.50 and you must be an enrolled student for the Fall 2021 semester.

    Dear School of Music,

    I’m writing to share updates on the Music and Performing Arts Library for fall semester. First, some of you know that Diane Pye retired last spring and that Nancy Taylor retired at the end of June. Because we are not able to fill these positions immediately, this will have an impact on our hours and services. I hope that this will only be true for the fall semester and regret any inconvenience our shortened hours may cause you and your students.
