Professor Emeritus Stephen Portnoy was named as a 2015 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. # UIUC Alumnus David Blackwell honored with the National Medal of Science

David Blackwell (1919-2010), "a towering figure in the fields of probability, statistics and the mathematical sciences," was honored with a posthumous Medal Oct 3, 2014. He received the PhD in Mathematics from UIUC in 1941 under the direction of Joseph Doob. He was a world renowned faculty member in Statistics and Mathematics at the University of California Berkeley.
