We are seeking your help in reaching undergraduates who may be interested in the Community-Academic Scholars Initiative. During this 10-week summer program, selected undergraduate students will collaborate with faculty and community organizations on projects that are designed to benefit the community. In addition to faculty and community mentorship, scholars will receive guidance and support from program leaders and invited speakers during weekly coffee hours.
This initiative can offer a valuable experience to an undergraduate from any discipline who is interested in addressing critical issues in the areas of health equity, brain health, and poverty or social inequality. The Summer 2019 pilot of the Scholars for Health Equity had undergraduates from Social Work, Applied Health Sciences, ACES, and Fine and Applied Arts. We expect the opportunities to be even greater with our expanded program areas for Summer 2020:
- Brain Health (sponsored by Beckman Institute and IHSI),
- Solving Poverty (sponsored by Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences and IHSI), and
- Health Equity (sponsored by College of Education and IHSI).
Applications to the Community-Academic Scholars program are due Feb. 1, 2020.
