The program is open to any student who is majoring in a science or engineering-related field.
REU students will be immersed in a 10-week intensive research experience at one of ASSIST’s partner institutions.
Students will be partnered with a faculty mentor based on their interests, they will conduct a research project, and they will present their work at a student symposium at the end of the summer.
The program is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents only. Women, members of under-represented minority populations, and students from institutions that do not have strong STEM research programs are encouraged to apply.
Students will receive a $4,000 stipend , on-campus room and board, and up to $500 for travel reimbursement for those students coming from outside of a 50 mile radius of the host university.
The application deadline for Summer 2013 is May 1, 2013, but applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. Please note the application form requires that you submit:
- One page resume.
- Official or unofficial transcript.
- Letter of interest indicating an understanding of the ASSIST mission, system, and your future goals as well as linking how past experiences and this research opportunity would help you obtain those goals.
- The name and e-mail address of at least one professor, faculty, or other individual who can vouch for your academic merits and has agreed to provide a recommendation.
