The first program is NSF-funded REU FODOMMaT program that offers summer fellowships to undergraduates from UIUC and students out of Illinois.
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) The Future of Discovery: Training Students to Build and Apply Open Source Machine Learning Models and Tools (FODOMMaT) program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is seeking students to apply for a 10-week paid summer training experience in machine learning. Successful applicants will work full-time on one of cutting-edge FODOMMaT research projects that develop open-source machine learning models and tools and use them to solve real-world problems. The program will be held on-site at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and REU FoDOMMaT fellows will work in person during Summer 2023. 2023 Summer REU FoDOMMaT Highlights:
Program dates: May 22 – July 28, 2023
Work up to 40 hours a week for 10 weeks
Student stipend: $600 a week
Paid room and board and one round trip to and from UIUC campus
Enrolled in a degree program (part-time or full-time) leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree
Available full-time during the program
At least 18 years of age by the start date of the program
Some software development experience with Python is required as well as some exposure to machine learning (ML) via coursework, self-study, or other projects
Advanced academic training in ML and software development is a plus, but not required
Only US citizens or permanent residents are eligible

The second program is the Students Pushing INnovation (SPIN) internship program. This program is open to UIUC domestic and international undergraduates only. The SPIN program offers part-time paid internships. Below is the SPIN blurb:
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) has a history of nurturing innovative concepts, and some of the best ideas have come from highly motivated, creative undergraduate students. The Students Pushing INnovation (SPIN) internship program was launched to provide University of Illinois undergraduates with the opportunity to participate in hands-on research and contribute to interdisciplinary projects covering focused research areas in Culture and Society, Earth and Environment, Bioinformatics and Health Sciences, Material and Manufacturing, Data and Computational Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, and Digital Agriculture. The SPIN program will be accepting applicants for the Summer 2023 session starting from January 23, 2023.
