CHP emeritus professor Carol Spindel's new book, I Give You Half the Road, January 2021, University of Wisconsin Press, tells the turbulent recent history of Ivory Coast through the lives of five people she has known since they were children. All five left the same rural community in northern Ivory Coast and moved to cities just as their country, considered the most stable in West Africa, was split in two by exclusionary politics.
