This October 25, 2014, millions of volunteers across the nation will unite with a common mission – to improve the lives of others. For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine, in collaboration with Points of Light, has brought you Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Find local opportunities to get involved with at www.CUVolunteer.org.
One on-campus opportunity for the day is: The University is participating in its first Game Day Recycling Challenge at the October 25th homecoming game against the University of Minnesota. For the event the usual landfill bins will be replaced with 3-bin stations to separate landfill, recycling, and compost. The materials collected will be weighed, the diversion rate calculated, and then entered into a friendly national competition. To volunteer for this event, please email Bart Bartels at bbartel@illinois.edu.

Illini Fighting Hunger General Meeting: The General meetings for Illini Fighting Hunger are open to all volunteers or students looking to become involved in the Leadership Team in the future. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the IFH leadership team, sign-up to volunteer at packaging events, and become more aware about hunger and malnutrition around the world. Leadership Team members meet once a month separately, and also hold committee meetings once a month that members must attend. General volunteers are not required to attend committee meetings, but may help with events and with other volunteer opportunities. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at 317 Gregory Hall.
Thanks to the OVP listserv for these information items.
