The Annual Feminist Film Festival welcomes films from undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. People underrepresented in the media field are especially encouraged to submit a film to the festival. The Annual Feminist Film Festival is a grassroots event that uses art and alternative media to bring social issues to the fore. The goal of the festival is to showcase independent film spanning documentary, narrative, and experimental genres in order to explore perspectives often missing from mainstream media and culture. The festival strives to serve as a space for underrepresented artists and filmmakers, particularly women and people of color, to raise consciousness concerning issues related to gender, race, class, sexuality, ability and other dimensions of social inequality, as well as the deconstruction of normalized categories of being. The University of Illinois Annual Feminist Film Festival is organized and hosted by the Women’s Resources Center, in collaboration with a variety of campus units and departments. Films are screened at the Art Theater Co-op in downtown Champaign. Submissions are invited for student-made films between 5-15 minutes in length exploring social justice, social identity, and feminism(s). Film submissions should be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and sent via email to rstorm2@illinois.edu. Please include the following information:
*Title of Film
*Director's Name
*Cast/Production List
*Artist's Statement/Synopsis
The deadline is Friday April 10th, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. If you’d like to learn more about submitting a film or getting your organization involved, please contact Rachel Lauren Storm, Assistant Director, at rstorm2@illinois.edu or phone (217) 333-3137.
