What happens on a Weekend Service Trip?
The group will depart from the Illini Union Friday afternoon and arrive and stay overnight (both Friday and Saturday) at McCormick Theological Seminary Guest Housing (by University of Chicago). On Saturday (and possibly Sunday morning), various service projects will be completed throughout the day. Saturday night and Sunday will include exploring Chicago. Volunteer and sight-seeing locations are being finalized.
What projects will be worked on during the trip?
Examples: Participants will visit a Ronald McDonald House to work as a group to bake heart shaped cookies and prepare and serve meals for families and children. Volunteers may clean homeless shelters, organize shipments at a foodbank, or repaint rooms and cabinets in various locations in Chicago.
How many students participate in each trip?
Each trip will consist of 8 trip participants, two student Group Leaders, and two chaperones. The group will travel in a mini-bus for the trip.
Is there a fee to participate in Weekend Service Trips?
Participants are asked to cover a portion of their service experience. The trip will cost $50 per student. Trip fees go towards accommodations, food, and travel expenses. Weekend Service Trip deposits are due on February 9, 2015. Limited financial assistance is available.
What is the time commitment to Weekend Service Trips?
All participants must attend 1-2 pre-trip meetings and 1 post-trip meeting. All participants are required to actively participate in all service activities and reflections.
