About the Author: Sarah Deer is Professor of Law at William Mitchell College and is a 2014 MacArthur Fellow. A citizen of the Mvskoke Creek Nation, Professor received her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Kansas. Co-author of Maze of Injustice for Amnesty International, having a role in the 2013 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010, Professor Deer advocates for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in Native America.
About the book: Released in November 2015, the book grounds “in historical, cultural, and legal realities, both Native and non-Native, these essays point to the possibility of actual and positive change in a world where Native women are systematically undervalued, left unprotected, and hurt. Deer draws on her extensive experiences in advocacy and activism to present specific, practical recommendations and plans of action for making the world safer for all” - Minnesota Press.
